Charlie's Ramblings (16) Music, chatting, etc.

I've had a wonderful couple of days including yesterday which was my birthday.  Thanks to an awesome workplace, family and friends I had a fantastic day.  Only two more days until I'm officially on my week off work.  YAY!!  It's Brisbane Writer's Festival next week and I'm super excited and a little bit nervous because myself and two other bloggers will have the chance to pick Maggie Stiefvater's brain in the Writer's Workshop on Saturday.  A tad bit daunting though since these two writers workshops will be a first and I'll be in the same room as fellow writers.  I'd love to know how the day will go but with it only being a week away I won't have to wonder long!

Anyways that is my little tid bit for today.  I better get over and do some assignment work soon.  I don't want to end up having to rush through it next week!

Charlie's Ramblings (15) Random stuff

Sometimes life gets chaotic huh?  With review books coming out my ears (not that I mind) and my NaNoWriMo at a stand still (which I do mind)  I feel like so much is going on yet I'm not getting the things I need to done.  Does anyone else feel like that?

I know I haven't been writing much on here but I'm actually trying to find an app for that. LOL I'm always carrying my iPad everywhere but have noticed that while I CAN blog on there, it all has to be done in Edit HTML.  Yeah I know I'm talented (NOT) but I'm having a hard time remembering how to do things in HTML.  So does anyone know which app works best for using Blogger on the iPad??  I'd love to know.  It would sure help me out.

For an early birthday pressie Mum decided to take me out for dinner and a movie and since Fasta Pasta does the Dinner and movie deal we did just that.  All I have to say is they have very nice.. err staff ;) especially one in particular. NOT that I was looking *Looks everywhere else but at you* 

Anyhow we finally got to see Red Dog!  Brilliant Aussie film.  If I didn't have two dogs already I would go out and buy a red dog of my own lol.  It had guys in jocks in a few of the shots and that had me laughing since it seemed in almost every scene someone ended up in just their jocks.  I recommend this to anyone who likes Australia.  I have to admit though, we do have a strange sense of humour at the best of times.. so hopefully those of you overseas get what we are on about in the film ;)

Charlie's Ramblings (14) The Ekka and V8's

I'm surprised that I really enjoyed the Ekka last night.  We didn't get there until about 6:30pm but the best thing was we didn't have to pay to get in, thanks to the ticket guy who just waved us through!  There were motor bikes, monster trucks and synchronised driving lol it was great.

Cruzito had a great time being it was first time we had taken him there.  I think he was a little bombarded with bright lights and rides since we walked straight into Side Show Alley.

V8 Supercars today was AWESOME!  I'm not usually into the races but being there in the crowd gets everyone pumped up. Plus Holden won!!! Yeah Baby!  Not to mention the freestyle motorbike riders from the Ekka entertained us in between races which was great.  The beginning of the day looked grim with plenty of rain but it stopped about mid morning and only showered lightly later on.  

So yeah, that was my weekend.  Also, a workmate was kind enough to make me a wooden sign.  Very crafty fella he is. Here's a pic that he sent me and fingers crossed I should be getting it tomorrow!

Hi all,
Long time no see!

So here I am, in the passenger seat on the way to the Ekka. Not that I'm looking forward to going, but it's the last day and my other half convinced me that our little one needs to see the motorbike and monster trucks! Don't get me wrong, any other weekend I would have been excited to go. It's just that I'm behind on review books and blogging, as well as keeping up to date with assignments... Oh yeah and trying my hardest to keep up in the ever losing battle of Camp Nanowrimo! See? I have too much stuff to do than go to the Ekka. But that's where I'll be *sigh*

Will post later on as to how it went!

NaNoWriMo Update: Way behind! Thanks Research

Yes!  I'm still trying to get my word count up.  At this rate I'll be having to write 4000 words a day to keep up if I don't get my daily word count up!

I think part of my problem with the delay is I get caught up in the little details.  Names, days, sequence of things... for some reason I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to the small things in my writing.  Characters names are a big thing for me and I know I can't keep writing until I have found the perfect name for said character.  I could be there for hours online searching through unusual baby names etc.  It holds me up.  I wonder whether it's my subconscious saying, I don't wanna write today, or It's easier to research than write because let's face it, WRITING IS HARD.  Writing WELL is even harder and you are guaranteed at least two revisions/rewrites before things start to look good.

Part of my research revolves around the creatures in Possibly Violet (working title of the moment.. could change though).  I wasn't going to have anything too out there for this but things turned out more supernatural than I expected.

The above pic comes close to how I pictured one of the animals in my Violet story.  Even the hell hound from Call of Duty would be quite fitting for how I picture my hell hounds.

So yeah,  I spent alot of time reading up on Hell hounds and all sorts and then finally decided that the traditional hell hound didn't have the background I was looking for, I kind of tweaked it a little.  

So my question for you is, do you ever get too caught up on the research when you should be writing??

Charlie's Ramblings (12) Not much Action ..

So I've noticed that I haven't done any posts since Monday and I was shocked that I hadn't picked up on it! NaNoWriMo is pretty much starting out terribly.  I've written about 1000 words when right now it should be around 11000 so I'm thinking I'm a bit of a failure at this Camp NaNo.  It's not for the lack of ideas even though I'm a bit stuck on direction I still can get words out, it's just that so much is happening with Spellbound By Books and life in general that my writing is suffering.  I'm even feeling it too.   

The last few days I've been sick too with Bronchitis while the little one has Tonsilitis.  Lovely mix isn't it.  We managed to make it to the Lauren Kate Signing on Saturday and while it was an absolutely fantastic outing, that night was a rough one with Cruz.

I also received some tickets in the mail! Check these out.  I've got TWO writer's workshops!  AND Maggie Stiefvater is running one of them.  *HAPPY DANCE* Okay.  Okay.  I've calmed down. lol.  But seriously it's going to be an awesome week.  On Saturday not only am I going to meet Maggie but I'll also be doing the workshop with Brittany (Nice Girls Read Too) and Brett (Demons Read Too).  Then I'll be seeing Corinne Grant and some other really cool people in Please Don't Make Me Be Funny which should be a blast.

Anyways that it is all from me for now.  I'll try to do a few writing posts with you guys this week to share some more of my writing and not be so slack.  Stay Tuned for Daily Dose Monday tomorrow :)
