And so it begins..

I've begun writing about Violet and wanted to share some of what I've done with you.  Please bear in mind that this is quite raw and could change and be swapped around.  Please tell me what you think.
Another day in hell, A.K.A school.  It's overcast and I have to walk.  Some days are just better off being skipped.  I pull on some jeans and my long sleeve skulls shirt.  I flick my fringe out of my eyes long enough to line them in black and let it fall back into place.  From my bedroom window I can see Kendra and Mark next door holding hands and groping each other.  Blegh.  Get a room!  I bet Kendra doesn't know that in a few years Mark will ditch her for a beautiful blonde who turns out to be a prostitute.  Or that when he tells her it's his first time too, he is lying through his teeth since Deanna will be the first  three weeks before Kendra, at Tara's seventeenth party while her parents are down the coast.
I wouldn't even know any of this if Mark hadn't unknowingly pushed past me on the way to lunch two weeks ago.  His hand had grazed my arm and I was thrown into his future.  I had reefed the notebook out of my bag, #651 and filled up the last pages.  My chest slowly relaxing with every word that's written until I can manage to let out a whisper of relief.  That's why I had taken to wearing long sleeve shirts.  The less skin showing the better.
Today would be interesting.  Yet another new maths class.  Second change so far this year.  Mrs Jamerson my previous Maths teacher kind of had a big problem with me.  She even went as far as calling me anti-social in front of the class because I wouldn't answer any questions.  Little did she know that exactly two minutes before hand she had handed out test results and the tip of her finger had touched mine.  No matter how many times I'd tried to answer it was like my voicebox had been stuck in a void.  I could make the motions but that was it.  The whole class had been in fits of laughter, including Mrs Jamerson with that smug little look on her face.  That was until I picked up my books and as I walked past, I slipped a note on her desk and ducked out.  Appointment with Mr Gray in Science storeroom at 4pm today.
That little note went down like a lead balloon and I was kicked out of her class for.. get this 'disrupting the class'!  Whatever.
I make my way across the sports ovals behind the school.  It's 7:30am.  An hour early.  I throw my bag over the fence, hitch my leg over the top and am over and heading towards the smokers bay where I can be left alone until class.
It's Friday the 13th, and while that's nothing big for anyone else, the whole timing of this and the fact that my 'touch' has been playing up is too much of a coincidence.  Lately I only have to be in close proximity of someone and I'm thrown into a vision.  It's horrible.  I can't help but get the feeling something big is going to happen.  I dread to think what is in store for me!
I pull out notebook #652 and doodle in the front pages.  Hearts and crosses, stars etc.  It's strange now that I think of it.  The last four notebooks have got similar patterns, only they seem to relate to what is in those notebooks.  Weird.
When I look up again I notice that half of my new Maths class is already inside and I worry that I have zoned out.  It happens sometimes.  I grab my messenger bag and go in to look for an unoccupied seat.  Since half the school year is gone majority of the good seats are taken leaving one up the front, which is a no-no and one closest to the door.  I slip into that and dump my bag on the floor.
As luck would have it we have a substitute teacher who is more interested in her own problems then teaching us.  Which is fine by me.  Another student whose face I kind of recognize hands out some textbooks to the front of the class and I'm careful to pass back one without making eye contact or touching the person behind me.  Algebra, go figure.
The time ticks by and my neck prickles.  I sit up straight in my seat and tense my shoulders.  I know that feeling well.  I want to look behind me and find the person staring at me, to force them to look away like most people do.  But I can't.  And the longer I sit still like this, the more uncomfortable I feel, until I can't take it any more and look around to find no one there.  The bell rings a moment later and I have my bag and books stuffed away before anyone else has registered its time to go.  I glance back once more as I head towards my next class.  He's watching me leave.  He's a few heads above the other students so he stands out in the crowd.  Messy dark hair, piercing gaze, slightly unshaven face.  Yes, I've seen him plenty of times before so he's not new.  I can't place the name but I know the icy feel of his eyes on me, even now.  I turn back just in time to avoid hitting the pole I was destined to meet and slip around the corner in the direction of Art.
I know one thing for sure.  His interest in me can't be good.  Mark that one up on the list of things and people to avoid.

Introducing Violet.

I'm a girl of few words.  It's not a choice, believe me.  On the inside I'm a chatterbox begging to be heard, but on the outside just one touch and I'm mute!  Well, at least until I can write down what I see.  You might think I'm a freak, I am, and my clothes make me stand out but at least everyone gives me a wide berth.  No chummy girlfriends wanting to touch me, no boyfriend, no complications.  To date I've managed to fill up 651 notebooks since I learned to write, avoided three shrinks my mother tried to schedule me to see, and have pretty much got the problem down pat.  Except for Christmas, my birthday and family functions I've managed to live a pretty normal life.

My name is Violet, and I've got a hands off policy.  Unless you want me to see what you've done, doing and about to do, don't touch me.

Charlie's Ramblings (8) Characters and Parties

Hi all,
I've arisen from the dead lol.  Well it kind of feels like that after a big night like the one I've had! Finally our social club for work had another outing.  Dinner and a show at Jupiters Casino at the Gold Coast.  It was fantastic!  I've never been to a show like 'Stomp' before, where they use various items to beat out a tune.  This is something I recommend to you Aussies!  If you haven't gone.  You should go.  It's worth the money.  Here's a glimpse of it here:

I've also been busy with Violet's story.  Well more to the point, finding realistic versions of my characters.  It's really odd, and I don't know whether it is a stalling mechanism for writing the story but I felt I needed to have some pics.. Bear in mind these have been taken from the net.. or more importantly We Heart It! So here they are...

So these would be close to how I'd picture Violet in Real Life.

And these would be close to how I picture the guy (who still has no name) who is/isn't in Violet's life.

So I shall leave these pictures with you and hopefully later today I'll be posting up my little intro story to Violet!

Stay tuned!

Charlie's Ramblings (7) Late nights and inspiration

It has been a couple of days since I posted hasn't it?
Well that has definitely been unintentional to say the least!  I've been sick over the weekend, finally got my assignment submitted on Sunday and some pressing review books needed to be read ASAP.  Yesterday would probably have been sooner for them .. *sigh* I love it though, there's no denying it!  Funny thing about the assignment.  I was pushing to get it done by Monday, slightly stressing that the due date was then only to find out Tuesday that I was six days early!  I know I wanted to get ahead eventually but WTF?!  I guess I just have to put it down to not wearing my glasses when I should lol!

As the title says, I've been pulling some late ones this week.  Cruz hasn't been sleeping too well, and that little writing bug has hit me again.  I'm quite surprised.. (about the writing bug not Cruz since he's been jumping into our bed in the early hrs of the morning more frequently lol) I was getting a bit worried there.

It's been a little while since I've had a 'project' to be working on since NaNoWriMo last year.  And yes, it involves Violet.  See, I had how she looked down pat but her personality was a hard one.  Here and there I'd get tid bits and images that would remind me of her and link in somehow to her story but I couldn't pick where or how, I just knew that it was important.  Well I'm happy to say that as of right now, I have not one but TWO characters now I have to sort out, as well as a storyline with many.. and I mean many plot holes.  A few sub plots are already formed and I'm quite happy with how things are going so far.  I can say that it will have paranormalish elements throughout, just not sure the details specifically.  I love having an idea then running with it though.  At least I feel like I can step outside the box!
I'm hoping to have a couple of real pictures of maybe celebs or what not that match my little picture in my head of Violet and 'Character 2' as he is yet to be named.  So feel free to give suggestions.

So fingers crossed I will have some writing up in the next post... I know I know I keep saying that, but it's kind of hard to put something quite raw up on the blog without knowing whether I'm going to stick with it or not.  We shall see.  But yes ;) I  have started !

Charlie's Ramblings (6) Possibly scammed? And other randomness

Yes you read right.  I may have made a BIG mistake!  Well, let's change that to WE since it took two of us to make the decision.  My other half organized with an investor to come meet us at our place last night.  Last Night!  State Of Origin, Game 2 night!  And I only find out just after I've gone to get dinner and walked in the door.  He tells me, 'Oh yeah, forgot to tell you I got some guy coming to talk about Investment homes in like.... 15 minutes.'  Meanwhile, the house is a mess, the little one is running riot and we haven't even had dinner yet.

So long story short, we get roped into signing paperwork that we can 'pull out of any time providing it's within the 10 days cooling off period' before they lug the credit card with almost a 1000 bucks for a one off joining fee and some guy from a bank will be coming to visit on Monday.  They don't like to stuff about do they?  Well, after having a night to think about it, NO!  I'm not interested, no matter how good it is.  And by the time he had left, we'd missed half the game.  How is this for a hint, the other half grabs the remote and flicks it over to nine as he's talking lol.  I think that was a hint which the fella didn't get.

Suffice to say, the bloody Blues won!  Which, like I said to my Dad,  you can't have the Maroons winning the second game otherwise the third one will be boring.  I like the last game to be 'edge of your seat' action like... are we gonna win or lose this game lol.  Sometimes I think I read too much.

Song for the Moment:

Have a listen to the lyrics.. It's pretty awesome!

And since I'm in the sharing mood, here's a movie that looks both awesome and kinda freaky.  Super 8.  What are your thoughts on this one. At one point it kind of has that E.T feel with the bike and all and then bam!  lol

Well that's it for me for the time being.  Been pulling some late ones these last few nights just to get assignments and some reading done.  I haven't been doing too much writing either, but I've been brainstorming a bit though.  I guess the late nights will start to catch up with me soon..

Until next time..

Random Writing: Shadow Creatures

I'd posted this one up to encourage everyone to send in their work for the Once Upon A Time Project a little while ago.

The idea behind this actually came from two places: my dreams, and my little one Cruzito. Yeah I have bizarre dreams and this was one of them. It was along the lines of Cruz coming in to tell me there were monsters in his room, but they'd hid in the shadows (the whole thing was dreamt since my little one isn't quite able to string sentences together yet) and that's where that came from. So enough rambling, here it is.

I was cursed, no other way to look at it. While other kids grew out of the night light phase, I had just turned 15 and couldn't sleep without my lamp, bedroom light and hall light on if I could get away with it. Shadows, more importantly what lurked in the shadows frightened the bejesus out of me. Always has.

I was wrongly diagnosed with night terrors when I was six. By age ten it was hallucinations I was treated for. Funny though, with all the tablets I'd taken for my supposed illness, they never made the moving shadows and things with teeth disappear. If anything they got progressively worse until I convinced my parents of buying me a dog to keep me company.

Shandy was a beautiful bitzer. Bits of everything the dog seller had said. Not once had I ever dreamed of getting a full night sleep without waking up screaming and covered in blood, but when Shandy moved in and was allowed to sleep on my bed I'd had my first full night sleep in years.
Within the first two weeks of Shandy arriving most of the shadow creatures disappeared. There were still one or two each night that lingered at the edge of my room but they no longer felt hostile. Mum and Dad grew to love her as well. Although, maybe once or twice they threatened to take her back to the seller when she got into Dad's study and peed on his laptop. It wasn't really her fault though. She must have taken a disliking to Dad when he roused on her for chewing his shoes earlier that day. Hard to say.

Everything had settled down with my family but I should have known that good things don't last forever.

** 2 months later**

"Shandy, where are you?" It was late afternoon, the sun had almost set and there was no sign of her. Ripped sheets scattered the backyard and Mum's potted plants were turned upside down, dirt and flowers everywhere. I was surprised to find the mess. It had been a while since she had raided the clothes line and the pot plants were a first. Mum wasn't going to be happy.

I bundled the sheets up but paused when my hand brushed against a piece of paper. "What's this?" My stomach tightened when I read the words that clung to the page. Each sentence so familiar I knew it almost by heart. The sheets dropped to the ground and I followed the paper trail to the corner of my father's shed; the sense of dread spreading.

My signed copy of Lord of the Rings lay three feet in front of me torn to shreds. A faint muffled growl came from the other side of the shed. "Shandy?" My voice shook and I regretted speaking the moment the words were out. I stepped towards the sound forgetting for a moment about the dangers of the shadows..
Shandy was at the other side of the shed tangled in some branches, her muzzle wedged into the thickest ones. I took a few more steps then waited for my eyes adjust. The sun had almost set which left me a few minutes to get her out of the branches and in the house before night fully set in.

She whimpered and struggled more, the closer I got. When I was a few feet away our eyes met for the briefest moment before I realized my mistake. She was never one to play behind the shed, or in Mum's garden for that matter so being stuck in the branches was out of the ordinary. Once that thought had occurred, the branches around her began to twist and curl until it took a new shape, a sneering creature with a mouthful of needle-like teeth. Then the whispers started. Darkness was here.

My heart thumped so hard against my ribs and my legs wanted to leave with or without the rest of my body but I refused to give in to the panic that was steadily growing. There was no way she would be able to get free of it. This one was bigger than the ones from my room. He stood around five feet tall and smelled horrendous. Worse than my three day old socks. Before I could take another step I was knocked off my feet landing hard on my back, my vision exploded into millions of white specks. Pain radiated in waves from the back of my skull. I could hear scratching and growling not far from me, but I couldn't bring myself to stand without throwing up.

"The boy, kill the boy." The whispers were getting closer, and my skin crawled at the familiarity of it I recognized those voices from my room. I struggled to my feet and found Shandy taking the lead urging me on.

Cold scaly fingers clamped down on my ankle and I tripped face first onto the concrete. Shandy spun around and growled low and deep but the fingers only tightened. Sharp nails pierced my skin and I tried to yank my leg away. Shandy lunged and more shrill screams erupted over the whispers. My leg shook twice before it was freed and I was back on my feet running for verandah, Shandy close at my heels.

The back sensor light flicked on and a wave of relief washed over me, but I kept moving. Mum opened the door and both Shandy and I leapt through it and she shut it just as quick, a panicked expression on her face.

"What's going on? Are you seeing things again?" She knelt down to take a look at my leg which I was holding awkwardly. I brushed her away.

"It's okay Mum. Just playing with Shandy. We're going upstairs now." I hurried upstairs and flicked on all the lights including the two lights in my room.

They were back. But why?

Charlie's Ramblings (5) Violet's taking form slowly

As usual, my attempts at writing yesterday were majorly foiled by a few things.  One of them being a large disagreement with myself and someone else who shall remain anonymous.  The other was the looming deadline that had snuck up on me.  Thankfully, after much work my assignment was done and submitted last night which really only left me an hour to read and do blog posts.

On a good note.  I'm making progress on Violet's story.  I have a few ideas up in the air at the moment and some subplots already materializing.  And definitely some questions that need answering! Some minor characters are popping up in the mix too, their roles haven't really been that obvious. There is the possibility that a character I wrote a short story on not long ago may make an appearance.  I haven't thought about this too much as it was a short story a friend asked me to write longer because she was dying to find out what happened next.  I think I got to the point of a particular scene where a new character had been introduced but because I was so stuck on this important characters name I was held up, and never got back to it.  I can give you a few tidbits of info thought to keep you all wondering :)  Genre would more than likely be paranormal...  Violet has a way with words.. (and yes I've already told you this part)... she's around 15 years old...

So hopefully this weekend being a long one, I'll get a few review books knocked off the list as well as Violet's story under way so I can share something with you all!

Here's another couple of images that seems to tie in with Violet and her story.

Charlie's Ramblings (4) Pretty random really..

I'm sitting here on a leather chair typing on this laptop with frozen fingers!  And admittedly, I did begin thinking how cool it would be to have a Usb Hand warmer just to plug into the computer.  Too much?   But yes it's cold, and apparently I've decided I've got Writer's freeze /block/uninspiring moment... whatever you wanna call it, I've got it.  Writeitis?  Yeah ok.. I just know that I've done absolutely NO writing these past few days!  With assignments due this weekend and a child that has turned into the night time monster it hasn't been easy keeping both blogs up to date as well as the emails too, so if it seems like I'm slacking off.. well I am but for good reason.  Reading also seems to be non-existant right now and I'm feeling it big time.

Violet is still being elusive but I have gotten a better idea of who she is, or more importantly who she's not.  I still don't have the details of her story yet and with her being a little more quieter than my other characters it's kind of hard to hear her story over the others.  No! For the record I don't hear voices ALL the time LOL.. It's just some characters feel more realistic than others and their stories are easier to catch/create.

I've worked out some stuff.  It seems Violet is in love, or more deep in like with a boy who doesn't know whether he is coming or going in the relationship status.  Makes it hard, but interesting.  Another thing I've worked out is Violet has a way with words it seems.  She's a bit socially awkward/outcast but she can write and spends alot of time with her head in her notebook moreso than the real world.  Shame really, since so much is going on around her and she's missing some very important signs.

Oohhh.. I think I need to do this more often.. you know randomness lol.  Violet seems to come to life a little more when I talk about her.  Thanks!

Okay so that's all the randomness I have in me tonight.

Until Next time :)

Oh yeah... just feel the need to be a little more random.. thinking it may or may not have something to do with Violet.  We will find out soon enough ;)

Charlie's Ramblings (3) How much is too much?

So I been doing a lot of thinking this afternoon, (which will technically be yesterday when I post this since it's already 12:11am) and want to ask the question.. how much should you take from real life when creating your characters and storyline?

I'm sure it's a question that everyone who writes has at some stage come across... unless it's just me.  See, I noticed an ongoing trend with the stuff I write and it seems to coincide with events and things that are going on at that particular time.  Obviously I don't use these events outright but I can definitely tell when I'm having an off day, or can narrow down roughly when I've written stuff.  And when I'm having a real bad day, I tend to kill off characters lol.  Don't worry, when I'm over that mood I, more often than not, resurrect this character by deleting the gruesome scene lol.

There is even some writing I've done where I've based a character on a person/s (which will never see the light of day if I can help it LOL) just to see if I can capture that essence, that unique thing that makes them who they are.

Obviously with whatever writing you do, you're always going to take from experience and the best thing is, if you do happen to create a scene that has remnants of something that really happened (but obviously with fictitious characters etc) at least at the end of the day you can say well, Meh!  It's just fiction don't read into it ;)

What are your thoughts?  How much is too much?  And, have you written someone into your story just to kill off that character to feel better lol?  Come on now, we're all friends ;)
